We have recently learned that 36 pieces of Charles Lotton’s early works formerly from the collection of Paul Nassau have been consigned to Early Auction Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio and will be auctioned on July 22nd & 23rd 2011 in the Doubletree Hotel at the Greater Cincinnati Airport!
Lillian Nassau, the famed Tiffany dealer from New York, discovered Charles Lotton early in his art glass career. Lillian felt that Charles Lotton’s work represented the “Tiffany of the Future”. In 1972 after seeing one of Charles’ “Lava” creations, Lillian phoned Charles and said: “Charles, I want all of the Lava glass you can make!” Shortly after Lillian saw the Lava vases she requested that a contract be drawn between Charles Lotton and her son, Paul Nassau, granting him an exclusive right to sell all of Charles Lotton’s work for the next 5 years! That was the beginning of a long and prosperous business relationship between Lillian Nassau and Charles Lotton.
Knowing the history of Lotton art glass and the importance of provenance in the art world, collectors will want to obtain a copy of the “2011 Summer Art Glass Auction” catalog from Early Auction Co.
