October Art Glass Auction Sparkles!
Early's October Art Glass auction featured a stellar array of Art Glass from all categories with some rare treasures in several areas. Leading the cameo was a gorgeous, detailed cameo plaque, executed and signed by George Woodall for Thomas Webb & Sons depicting a Sirene among the waves. The piece brought $30,000. An extremely rare, seven color Webb Vase in the Chien Lung style raced to $36,000. A museum quality cameo vase attributed to William Fritsche, featuring heavy decoration and bold coloring, climbed past the $25,000-$30,000 estimate to sell for $52,500.
From Tiffany Studios, it was the beautiful table lamps that shone the brightest. An elaborate Tiffany Pony Apple Blossom with a bronze tree trunk base sold for $145,000 and a fabulous Tiffany Peony table lamp in rich hues brought $127,500. A rare Tiffany aquamarine vase in bold colors brought $37,500. A rare Steuben Rose Quartz acid-cut-back vase sold for $12,500 and an eye catching Steuben vase in green jade with gold Aurene overlay hammered at $12,000.
A rare Royal Flemish covered piece with rich colors in a peacock decoration soared past the $15,000-$20,000 estimate to sell for $30,000. An extremely rare Webb Alexandrite vase in a jack-in-the-pulpit form got the bids going and soared high above the $3,000- $5,000 estimate to sell for $12,500. A rare New England Plated Amberina creamer and sugar were sold separately at the auction, with the creamer bringing $15,000 and the sugar selling for $10,000.
